IMPORTANT UPDATE AND NOTE:
The Shopify checkout step pages are currently supported by our next-gen version, TrackifyX. Since Shopify has restricted acess to the checkout steps pages for apps which affects Trackify's ability to generate pixel events, we have developed a perfect solution for this problem in our next-gen version which is called TrackifyX. Please request access to the private TrackifyX group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/trackifyx/
You will find installation details and instructions there.

What does this additional script do?

The Shopify checkout pages are not accessible for modifications or in our case to add pixel events via apps. If you add that script, you will get the following events added to the checkout pages This behavior is similar to the basic Shopify integration, but the special Trackify data is added to all of these events as well:

  • InitiateCheckout events on the first checkout step page (they fire on button clicks before reaching that page otherwise)
  • Page View events on all checkout step pages (can be used for building URL-based Custom Audiences)
  • AddPaymentInfo event when the step is reached where the user adds the payment info

When should you install this additional script?

Adding these events does not by itself improve anything. You could use the additional events to create additional audiences. So, if you[re planning on doing that in the future, it would be a good idea to add the script now. As always, Trackify will start creating additional pixel event data as soon as you install the feature. Even if you don't know how to use the additional data yet at the moment, you can benefit from the data later when you gather it as early as possible.

How to get the additional pixel events

To add these events, highlight the code below, copy it and paste it into the "Additional Google Analytics Javascript" field in your online Store Preferences.

UPDATE! Shopify has recently resticted access to this field. You now have to request editing ability. You can do this within a few minutes by support chat.

The following wording gets the point accross: 'Please enable scripting for the "Additional Google Analytics JavaScript" field for the store: ... '

NOTE:THIS SCRIPT SHOULD NO LONGER BE USED! IT IS HERE ONLY FOR REFERENCE!

function appendurl(url) {
var script = document.createElement('script');
script.setAttribute('type', 'text/javascript');
script.setAttribute('src', url);
document.head.appendChild(script);
}
var source = 'https://app.redretarget.com/sapp/assets/js/ga_trackify_script.js';
appendurl(source);

Note: If you don't see this field in your Shopify store, that's because you don't have Google Analytics installed yet. Please do that first, then the "Additional Scripts" field will be visible as shown here!

Please note: This script does not REPLACE any other Trackify scripts and does not interfere or double up anything. It is only used to add events to the checkout pages where you used to see a grey Facebook Pixel Helper icon.

If you already have any scripts in that field, just place your cursor at the very beginning of the field, and paste the Trackify code so it gets INSERTED in front of the existing code.
Be sure to hit Save at the top of the settings to save the changes!
